Be Prepared

My Mister built some great shelves under the stairs to store some of our food storage- previously it was sitting in boxes in the garage. Who knew we had so much?

I took a bunch of pictures as the project progressed last saturday, but the pictures have all somehow disappeared, so this is what you get.

He also wired a phone from the "all things wirey" box (he calls it his "SMC" or Structured Media Center) so that if the power goes out we still have a working phone.

Wow, that is impressive! What an awesome thing to be able to actually reach your food storage! We look forward to that. :)

Way to go on the shelves, Kyle! They are awesome! And I can't wait until we have that much food storage too. Thanks for letting us stay with you guys/share your baby-sitter this weekend!

Very nice! There are few things that feel more satisfying than a full pantry, especially when you canned it yourself. Mine seems a bit more chaotic but nearly as full...I had to buy most of it though since I've not fully gotten on the canning bandwagon yet. Next year, next year!

Nicely Done, Al!! I'm so impressed that all your food storage is *home* canned!

Nah- The store bought stuff is just piled in the bathroom until the rest of the shelves (in the way back) get built.

Awesome job! We may have to steal your plans for the shelves and duplicate your great idea!

We have plenty of store-bought foods too. The green beans and apples we canned last year were store bought (or produce stand bought anyway).

Canning is not as hard as it seems. Lots of foods don't even have to go in the pressure canner.

I am available for lessons if you're interested.
