I found this article a couple of years ago. I think it explains nicely why a mormon might feel like their religion has lead them to the democratic party.

What a wonderful concept! I can support that idea.
It was an interesting Tag Line, but like most politians, we got a slogan, a phrase and no reasoning as to why.
How is it that your mormonism made him a democrat? What is the corrilation between the two? As I was eager to hear more...we got nothing.
