One word of warning with cloth diapers, they are addicting, and once you start you will want to convince everyone you know to use cloth.

Your green peas endeavor sounds waaaayyy neat! I'm interested in seeing how it goes and reading more about your experience. Like you, I've always wanted to "go cloth" but unlike you I've never done it! Maybe this will be the inspiration I need...
