Awhile back my son and I were talking, and as 4-year-olds sometimes do, he asked me, "mommy, how come boys have penises and girl's don't?".
"Well sweetheart, that's just the way Heavenly Father made us." That answer seemed to satisfy his curiosity, so I was off the hook for now.
We climbed in the van and drove to pick up his friend, Jane (I was running carpool to pre-school).
Two hours later, Jane's mom dropped him off and he came running up to me waving the piece of artwork he had created that day. Apparently, it was gingerbread man day, and my 4-year-old's gingerbread man was obviously a boy gingerbread man. I wonder how often the teacher sees that sort of thing...
We really need to have these discussions AFTER preschool, not right before.
